Shunting and stabling calibration
This domain covers shunting, moving the train around stations and yards, and overnight parking, the stabling of a train between two nights of service.
The market top-up
Infrastructure managers publish what they charge for a shunting movement, but that is rarely the whole cost. It excludes the staff, the locomotive time and the yard capacity a real operator has to procure elsewhere.
The number of shunting movements is itself fixed at two per trip.
Stabling
Priced on each country's own basis against the scheduled layover and the train's length. Several countries provide a free allowance that covers an ordinary twelve-hour turnaround entirely, Norway and Croatia among them, so their parking cost is zero. Power drawn while standing is charged on top, at a rate per stabled hour.
